Stainless steel blind flanges close a flanged piping opening. This selection includes 304 and 316 raised-face models in the nominal sizes listed.
Specify the closure as a complete joint
Match nominal size, bolt pattern, facing and class to the mating connection. Review the design pressure and temperature along with the gasket and bolting requirements; the flange material alone does not determine the assembled joint rating.
A blind flange has a different function from an open-bore connection flange. Browse stainless steel flanges for threaded, socket-weld and slip-on alternatives.
Plan the closure as an installed assembly
A blind flange closes the opening at a flanged joint. Match it to the mating connection's size, class, facing and dimensional requirements, then specify the gasket and bolting for the intended service. A blind flange is a component, not a complete isolation or maintenance procedure.
For an unused branch or equipment connection, record the operating pressure and temperature and any project documentation requirements. If the closure will later be removed, consider access for safe handling and bolting as part of the installation plan.
Before ordering the blind flange
- Identify the mating flange's full designation and facing.
- Confirm the required stainless grade.
- Check the applicable service rating and joint specification.
- List the gasket and bolting separately unless expressly included.
- Carry over any required material traceability or inspection documents.
Is a blind flange the same as a line blind or spectacle blind?
No. These are different components and installation arrangements. Select the item required by the piping design rather than treating the names as interchangeable.
Can a blind flange be drilled for a gauge or drain?
Do not assume a modified flange retains its original rating. Any alteration needs the appropriate design and fabrication assessment.
Does fitting a blind flange mean a line is safe to open?
No isolation condition should be inferred from the component alone. Follow the site's established isolation, verification and depressurization procedure.
