Industrial check valves respond to flow conditions to limit reverse flow in the services specified for each model. Browse piping check-valve listings, including flanged swing-check configurations.
Installation orientation matters
Confirm the permitted mounting orientation and flow direction, then review opening requirements, flow capacity and closing behavior. Match body and trim materials, end connections and pressure-temperature class to the system.
For check valves used in hydraulic tool circuits, including manual-release or pilot-operated arrangements, use the separate hydraulic check-valve category.
Match opening and closing behavior to the line
A piping check valve responds to the flow conditions around it. Establish the permitted orientation, opening requirements and expected flow range. Size alone does not establish reliable operation, and a check valve should not be assigned the function of a manually operated isolation valve.
| Piping condition | Selection information to review |
|---|---|
| Normal flow | Required capacity and opening conditions |
| Variable or low flow | The model's operating behavior over that range |
| Reverse-flow event | Closing characteristics and the system's surge considerations |
| Installation | Permitted orientation, flow direction and adjoining pipe arrangement |
| Service | Body/trim compatibility and pressure-temperature limits |
For a pump-discharge application, provide the operating flow range and relevant system behavior rather than ordering only a check valve the same size as the pipe. A replacement should be assessed for the duty that caused the original to operate, not only for its flanged dimensions.
Will a swing check work in every mounting orientation?
No. Use the manufacturer's permitted orientation and installation requirements for the exact model.
Does a check valve eliminate water hammer?
No universal result is established by installing a check valve. Closure behavior and the complete piping system require an appropriate assessment.
Is a piping check valve suitable for a hydraulic lifting circuit?
Do not infer that use. Review hydraulic check valves and the tool circuit's documented control and load requirements.
